Traditional Chinese Penjing styles are classified primarily by their most representative or dominant plants, and are named after their region of origin. Since different plants require different techniques to work with, different styles are thus formed. There are more than a dozen traditional Penjing styles:
Cantonese style
Canton style Penjing is also called Southern Mountain Range Penjing, because Canton is south of Nanling . The main characteristics of this style are a neutral, smooth and neat appearance.
Jiangsu style
Like the culinary art of Jiangsu cuisine , the art of Jiangsu style Penjing is also complex, with the tree crowns usually pruned into the shape of clouds .
Sichuan style
Sichuan -style Penjing is usually neatly trimmed, simple, and unsophisticated.
Yangzhou style
Yangzhou style Penjing is also called Northern Jiangsu style and is distinct from Jiangsu style . Its most striking feature is the three twists of its tree trunks.
Shanghai style
Shanghai style Penjing has influenced Japanese bonsai , but at the same time has retained its original artistic appearance, which it receives from traditional Chinese painting .
Guangxi style
Guangxi style Penjing reflects the beauty of natural landscapes, such as those in Guilin . This style typically uses more different types of rock than other styles.
Anhui style
Anhui style Penjing is known for its use of ume .
Zhejiang style
Zhejiang style Penjing specializes in the use of pine and cypress trees , and typically has three to five plants per tray.
Fujian style
Fujian style Penjing specializes in the use of banyan .
Peking style
The Peking style Penjing reflects its artistic origins in the architectural traditions of Beijing . The branches are usually horizontal and the crowns of the trees are often hemispherical or in the shape of a traditional fan .
Taiwan style
Taiwan -style Penjing is a cross between Japanese bonsai and traditional Chinese Penjing .
Hubei style
Hubei style Penjing emphasizes the production of a sense of movement through the forms of static plants and rocks, and is therefore also known as Dynamic Penjing .
Xuzhou style
Xuzhou style Penjing is a variety of Jiangsu style , but has been considered different from it for centuries due to its use of fruit trees.
Zhongzhou style
Zhongzhou style Penjing is characterized by the use of Tamarix .
