This is a subtropical shrub , and although my personal favorite variety is the one with the pink "flower," there are varieties in a variety of colors, including the aforementioned pink, white, red, orange, yellow, and violet. The curious thing about bougainvillea bonsais is that what we see at first glance and what makes them so striking are not actually their flowers, but bracts , leafy protective scales that surround the small white trumpet-shaped flower in the center. This species originates from South America, so if you live in a warm area, you can grow it without too much trouble.
