During these special times, it's common to see bonsai trees for sale in shopping malls and other stores. It's a very original gift , but if you buy it from a non-specialist store, they probably won't be able to properly instruct you on how to care for it.
You may have been told that keeping your bonsai indoors is fine (probably if you purchased a ficus, serissa, carmona, or other tropical or subtropical species that doesn't tolerate the cold well). Although we always recommend keeping your bonsai outdoors, we understand that sometimes this isn't possible, so it's necessary to explain in detail the watering issues you may encounter if you choose to keep your bonsai indoors.
Improper watering can cause various problems in indoor plants. Overwatering can lead to root rot, yellowing of leaves, and a deteriorated appearance. Underwatering, on the other hand, can cause dryness and leaf drop. It's also important to consider water temperature, as watering with cold water can impair growth. Excessive mineral salts in the irrigation water can damage the substrate and harm the plants. Exposure to light, humidity, drafts, sudden temperature changes, and direct heat sources can also cause problems.
